Greek Islands

Greece is a lovely place to visit. Not only the main city is beautiful but there are a number of islands which can prove a great holiday destination. The several islands that surround the main Greece are lesbos, koroni, kos, parga, samos, Rhodes, thassos, Crete, Corfu, kythera, Naxos, chios and skyros. A brief description of some of the islands of Greece is as follows:

1. LESBOS ISLAND: Lesbos is a lovely island that is nearby the Turkish coast. It has lovely beaches. The most beautiful city of the country is situated on this island. The name of that city is molivos. It is a beautiful city that is built against a hill. There is a fortress on the top of that hill. Many tourists visit molivos. Fishing and cultivation is the main source of living here. Another attraction of Lesbos Island is plomeri town. It is situated on the other side of the Lesbos. It is famous for the production of ouzo. Not many people visit this place. But it's good for peace loving people.

2. CHIOS: Chios is a quiet island of Greece. You can easily visit the whole island on a motorbike which is available on rent. Forest fires are very common on this island. Infact it has almost destroyed the original vegetation of the island. The places to visit in Chios Island include the beautiful towns of Mestas and Pygri besides many other small towns. The unique cultivation of Chios Island is mastic bushes. These are also used for therapeutic use.

3. SKYROS ISLAND: This is a relatively unknown island of Greece. In the past reaching here was quite difficult. But when you will reach there 2 things will really impress you. One is the picture perfect scenario of the Island that you see as soon as you reach there by boat and second the traditional warm welcome by the people of the Island. But now you can easily reach there by plane. The main city of Skyros is built against a high rock. People living here are very affectious. This city is full of traditions. All the homes situated here are painted in white and have a good work of art over them.

4. KORONI ISLAND: Koroni Island is situated on the south west part of the peninsula. One can easily view the Taygetos Mountains which are about 2500m.high. The beaches here are very beautiful with lovely evenings. The other places to visit are kalamata, Mani, stoupa and methoni.

5. SAMOS ISLAND: Samos Island is one of the most beautiful Islands of Greece. It is situated in the east of Greece and is close to the Turkish coast. It has a lovely seaside resort called Kokkari. It is a pleasure for the admirers of nature to visit this place. There are many forests and hills and you may also visit the valley of nightingales. It is also a great place for shopping. You can find everything from jewelry to clothes or several kinds of traditional goods of Greece. Other places to visit are vathi, kusadasi etc.

In addition to this there are many more islands in Greece. Greece is a wonderful place to visit for and one can never forget the sweet memories of Greece through out his life.
